The Virginia Screenwriting Competition opens for submissions on April 3 and will run through May 29.
This competition started in 1988 to give Virginia screenwriters the opportunity to have their work evaluated. During the first round, judges each select one or two scripts to be finalists. These finalists are sent to working professionals who will then select the three winners. If you happen to be one of these winners, you’ll be awarded $1,000 as part of the Virginia Film Festival, which is held in Charlottesville in November.
This is a great opportunity for screenwriters as all entries receive a written critique from the first round judges, which can offer valuable insight to help improve your work. In addition, the competition is one of the few in the nation which requires no entrance fee.
