Virginia – Virginia is For Lovers Short Film Competition – Deadline Extended to July 17

The Virginia Film Office and Virginia Tourism Corporation today announced that the deadline for their new contest, the Virginia Is For Film Lovers short film competition, has been extended to July 17th, 2017.

The 30-90 second challenge, hosted by the Audience Awards platform, prompts film lovers and filmmakers to show what they love most about Virginia. The VFO is seeking beautiful content from established and emerging filmmakers alike.  In its inaugural year, the contest will focus on Virginia, and guides filmmakers to showcase some of the primary Virginia is for Lovers sub-brands such as outdoor, music, craft beer and many more. Full details can be found at www.virginia.org/filmlovers

Virginia Film Office Director Andy Edmunds said, “We’ve decided to extend our deadline after hearing requests from several participants who want more time to capture the upcoming seasonal beauty of Virginia.  We are happy to be able to accommodate our talented filmmakers who are out there producing authentic content that shows what they love most about Virginia.”

The call for entries was announced at the Virginia Film Festival in Charlottesville this past November.  Filmmakers have until 9:00pm ET on July 17, 2017 to submit. After the close of submissions, audience voting will begin. A jury appointed by the Virginia Film Office will also select winning entries from submitted videos. Audience and jury selected submissions will win cash prizes totaling $15,000.  Members of the jury are to be announced at the end of May.

President and CEO of Virginia Tourism, Rita McClenny commented, “The Virginia is for Lovers Film contest feeds the hunger for stunning content, showcasing film projects that are capturing authentic Virginia experiences. The contest also gives filmmakers a larger audience and an opportunity to fund future projects.”
