Statewide – Potential Scam/Phishing – ‘Only in the Moonlight’

Several crew members have made the Virginia Film Office and Virginia Production Alliance aware of a potential scam in which ‘producers’ for a production entitled “Only in the Moonlight” reached out via email offering above-industry wages in several parts of the state, asking for personal information to set up payment, and are implying that they work for Castle Rock Entertainment. Various gmail emails are given as primary contacts.

The Virginia Film Office has made multiple attempts to reach out to the contacts given, without reply, and with the request that the emails make for personal information, we highly suggest not engaging with these individuals.

If you have shared personal information with them or have further information, we recommend sharing at the state level with the Attorney General’s office, or at the federal level, via the Federal Trade Commission’s fraud information portal, to help compile information and prevent the continuation of the potential scam.  Please feel free to reach out to the Virginia Film Office if you have concerns.

As a general warning, please be cautious of any film project you commit to, especially one that cannot be verified or one that cannot provide a legal contract for your services.
