Student short film. February 26 & 27 full days in Springfield, VA. March 14th half-day in Leesburg, VA.
Logline: After finding out her only daughter is a lesbian, a religious-conservative Hispanic woman invites her and her girlfriend over for dinner, leading to an awkward and tense series of events.
Compensation: Catering will be provided and credit in film.
Maria (Lead, Female, Hispanic, 35-50): Maria is a devoted Catholic with traditional values and a buried secret. She is a strong and confident woman who believes to have a perfect life. Her idea of the perfect life comes crashing down after her only daughter tells her she is a lesbian, leading to an internal struggle between her faith, family, and past.
Guadalupe (Supporting, Female, Hispanic, 20-25): Lupe (short for Guadalupe) is the daughter of Maria and Miguel. She has a bubbly personality with a kind heart who always remains optimistic. She has known about her sexuality from a young age, and now that she came out to her parents, she feels a sense of relief.
Miguel (Supporting, Male, Hispanic, 37-55): Miguel is a devoted catholic with some traditional values. He has a kind heart with a low education. He doesn’t do well with confrontation, which makes him uncomfortable. It was his idea to have dinner with Lupe and her girlfriend.
Mckayla (Supporting, Female, 20-30): Mckayla is Lupe’s girlfriend, an introverted and observant person who is also an atheist. She has a uniquely dark style, making Lupe’s parents uneasy.
