Hi my name is Duncan Coppi I’m a senior in VCUarts Film program and casting for my thesis film.
Brief Description
The working title is Remembrance. In this poignant coming-of-age narrative, James/Jamie, a disenchanted young college student, is reluctantly tasked with helping their aging grandmother move out of her house. As James/Jamie grapples with their own dissatisfaction and the burdens of adulthood, their interactions with their grandmother reveal layers of memory and love. Through her storytelling and shared experiences the audience is invited to reflect on the significance of intergenerational relationships, the challenges of change, and the importance of cherishing the past while navigating an uncertain future.
Looking For
James/Jamie – Male or Female. A scruffy college student in their early 20’s with an air of discontent. They’re taking a gap semester while they figure things out, which gives them the free time to help their grandma to their chagrin. They struggle with feeling disconnected and oscillate between annoyance and yearning for deeper connections, especially with their family.
Grandma – A warm hearted elderly woman and quick to offer a cookie or baked good, age 65 and up, she embodies resilience and nostalgia. She struggles with her dementia which affects her communication with James but when she gets a twinkle in her eye she can remember anything and will launch into a long rambling story.
Mom – a determined woman in her 40s, she balances practicality with a deep sense of care for her family as she is a single mother and now responsible for her own mother. Often dressed in comfortable but polished attire she navigates the stress of caregiving with a mix of firmness and tenderness.
