VPA – Legislative Update – Film Incentives

Legislative Update
2022 General Assembly Status Update:

We wanted to give you an update on Film Incentives and Budgeting during the 2022 Session of the General Assembly stands. Increased support for film in Virginia is back in the final budget with an increase of $2 million in the biennial budget for the Governor’s Motion Picture Opportunity Fund. See link to Virginia’s Budget, note paragraph C.

You may recall that increases included in the outgoing Governor’s budget were eliminated by budget-makers in the House of Delegates but retained in the Senate version. Your calls, e-mails, texts, and letters worked! Increases were restored to the Budget – though not in the amounts that we had hope. We will count that as a win!

Thank you for everything that you did. We will be following up with you to encourage you contact legislators in the coming weeks about the importance of the film industry to Virginia while they are at home in their Districts.

You may find contact information for Delegates and Senators here, for future reference (you can type in your address and find their information at this link).

Please join the VPA in the Richmond Metro Area (Wednesday) and in the Northern Virginia area (Thursday) this week for a bit of mixing and mingling with your colleagues in film. See registration information below.
