The Lighter Dark is a short film about an imaginative young boy and his family who move into a new house following the death of his father. While the family members all experience and cope with the grief in their own ways, they eventually learn that they can understand and rely on one another to make it through.
Main Characters:
Michael, 9-11 years old: he is unusually pensive and observant for his age and out of a recent sense of duty to his family behaves almost as an adult.
Peter, 5-7 years old: the youngest of the three brothers, is developing his sense of independence.
Harris, 15-17 years old: mature for his age but maintains a rebellious streak.
Jennifer Young, 30s: widow, mother of three, tries to hold her family together while grieving her husband’s death.
Additional Characters/Extras:
Father, 30s: military father.
Pianist, 40s-60s: must play piano proficiently.
Flutist, 40s-60s: must play the flute proficiently.
2 children between the ages of 5-14: playing outside.
