Richmond – Poe Film Festival – Oct 25-27 – Free

The 2019 Poe Film Festival, featuring the best cinematic storytelling from Virginia’s and the nation’s top filmmakers, will be held on the VCU campus in Richmond on the weekend of October 25 to 27.

“Get Out,” the Oscar-winning thriller by Jordan Peele, will open the festival at the VCU Commons Theater, 907 Floyd Ave., on Friday, October 25 at 7 pm.  The movie will be followed by a panel discussion examining the film’s themes and structure.

On Saturday, the festival moves to the spectacular Institute for Contemporary Art, 601 W. Broad Street, and its state-of-the-art Robertson Theater.  The morning screenings, starting at 9:30 am, will feature the top Virginia high school filmmakers.

Our celebrated College Film Awards will follow at the ICA, with approximately 30 invited schools from Virginia and DC, culminating in our red carpet awards ceremony.

Then the Pro Film Awards screenings begin at ICA at 7 pm, with a theatrical premiere of Nashville star Tristen’s “A Dream Within a Dream.”  Lyrics by Edgar Allan Poe (1849).

Our 2019 Director’s Award for outstanding creative achievements in the arts in Virginia will be presented to Richmond muralist and sculptor Mickael Broth.

On Sunday, October 27, the Pro Film Awards screenings continue at ICA with doors opening at 1 pm.  An awards ceremony for our pros concludes the festival about 5:30 pm.

The Saturday and Sunday events are free and all events are open to the public.  For more information, contact Brian Weakland at [email protected] or call 804-335-7746.
