The Virginia Department of Historic Resources will be hosting a dedication ceremony for the highway marker honoring Mildred and Richard Loving, whose fight to remain married in Virginia resulted in the historic Loving v. Virginia Supreme Court decision. The dedication will take place
Monday, June 12th (Loving Day!) at 1 PM, at the Patrick Henry Building (North side of the building).
June 12th of this year marks the 50th anniversary of this landmark decision, which overturned laws preventing interracial marriage in the United States.
Here is a short clip the production team behind the 2016 film Loving helped put together during their time in Virginia, speaking to the case’s significance.
More information below and an article about dedication can be accessed here.
We hope to see you there!
