Seeking local RVA mother/daughter duo for a VCU Student Film titled “One Wing”.
Audition dates: January 13th – January 20th, 2022 by email at leisure. Projected shooting dates: March 26th, 2022. This is a paid job.
Logline: Father and daughter take a hike as they discuss the future of her unborn child along with some unexpected news.
Synopsis: One Wing is a short film revolving around feelings of grief, isolation, and new beginnings. It offers a short glimpse into the lives of Mack and Leslie Costner, an adult father-daughter duo, as they navigate a transitional period in their lives. Leslie, a brassy woman in her early thirties, is pregnant for the first time. Her father, Mack, has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. He announces his diagnosis to Leslie as they hike together and Leslie, who has already lost her mother to terminal illness, must begin to reconcile with the idea that her future child will never know their grandparents.
One Wing explores nature’s connection to grief and the understanding that life is cyclical. Its intended audience is a general one; however, the project aims to speak directly to those affected strongly by grief. It focuses on the specific period of grief that occurs before the loved one being mourned has passed away. The intended outcome of the project is to exhibit a strong father-daughter relationship in film and to display the pain and resilience required in the face of terminal illness and new beginnings.
Character Descriptions:
Leslie: Mid-30s, cut and dry woman, wiseass like her dad, early in her first pregnancy. After losing her mother at a young age, she’s excited to become a mother for the first time herself. After her dad’s admission, she must face her emotions after decades of repressing them. Must be comfortable wearing a false-pregnancy stomach and doing light hiking.
Young Leslie: 8-12, young version of Leslie learning life-altering news.
