Richmond – Casting actors for 12 short films – casting dates 2/25, 3/03, 3/17 – unpaid

Sonja BERTUCCI, Filmmaker/Visiting Assistant Professor in Film Studies at the University of Richmond & “FILM PRODUCTION 302” are seeking 26 ACTORS for 12 non-union SHORT FILMS (around 5-10 minutes).

ALL PROJECTS WILL BE SHOT BETWEEN MARCH 9th and APRIL 7th, 2020.

Project Specifications and Compensation: Dramatic short, around 5-10 minutes, shot with the BLACKMAGIC 4K-6K. This is a film project for Intermediate Film Production 302 at the University of Richmond.It is a non-union, non-paid project, but food will be provided on set, and you will be credited for your work. In addition, you will receive a link to the film and a Bluray or a DVD (according to your preference) for your personal/professional use. The film will be shot between March 9th and April 7th in the Richmond area.

 

  1. BROKEN DREAMS by KYLE GARDNER  (2 ACTORS NEEDED)

Story:Truss’ broken dreams of becoming a professional basketball player come back to haunt him after he is fired from his office job.

 

Character Breakdowns:

Truss: 22-28, male, athletic, bad tempered, will play the role of a college basketball star.

Brandon: 30-50, male, athletic, funny, but serious, will play role of an NBA Sports Agent.

  1. IDEAL ANNA (2 ACTORS NEEDED)

Story:After dining at Anna’s perfect home, Eliza’s desire to conform to society’s ideals of perfection takes a surprising turn.

 

Character Breakdowns:

Eliza: 17-20, female. Eliza is struggling to come to terms with herself. Visually, she lacks any

kind of distinct style or flair. Eliza is a vulnerable and emotional, slowly reaching the

limits of all she can take.

Anna: 17-20, female. Anna possesses the flair and stylishness that Eliza wishes to replicate.

Although good at heart, she is so caught up in her own world and she is sometimes oblivious to how her words can wound people.

Story:Late at night, a student struggles to make sense of a peculiar encounter with his professor while in an inebriated state.

 

Character Breakdowns:

Professor Bardin: 50-80, male. Professor Bardin, a professor of economics, thinks everything is even a little funny. He is ultimately kind-hearted and funny but comes off at first glance as a stern old man.

  1. PERSONAL SPACE by JAKE CARDWELL  (4 ACTORS NEEDED)

Story:Riley, a gender-neutral student with hypersensitivity, has problems dealing with the exigencies of everyday life. Their condition takes a dramatic turn for the worse after an encounter.

 

Character Breakdowns:

Riley: 25-40. Riley (gender neutral) is constantly on edge, kind, and seems neurotic to others. Their movements are slow and deliberate, as to not accidentally touch things. Their clothes are uncomfortable but necessary to function, so they grin and they bear it.

Student: 20-30, female. A privileged student who is late in starting her thesis. Oft unaware of her surroundings, she has never quite moved on from a juvenile, adolescent mentality.

Man: 30-50, male. A frustrated, beaten, and angry white-collar worker, he is just trying to get to the office but his sister won’t stop nagging at him over the phone.

Cashier: 30-50, male. The regular cashier at a small coffee shop. Time has not been kind to him. He knows the faces of the regulars, but nothing beyond that.

  1. LIVING IN PEACE WITH YOUR SISTER by YANGYANG CHEN (2 ACTORS NEEDED)

Story:Micro fractures in sisterly love have enormous consequences.

 

Character Breakdowns:

Stella:20-24, Asian American. Stella is scrupulously clean and organized; she associates herself with purity (thus gravitating to the color white) but has a competitive streak, as she spends a lot of time playing competitive sports programs online (“e-sports”). She is an enigma to her sister.

Crystal: 18-24, Asian American, vivacious, seemingly born to be an adventurer. However, she is at a loss when it comes to the relationship with her sister. In the face of this relationship, part of her yearns for calm as a self-defense strategy.

  1. LIGHT by KIERSTEN NESS (2 ACTORS NEEDED)

Story:A young college student stuck in a cycle of loneliness is offered a chance to reconnect with the world by a mysterious stranger.

 

Character Breakdowns:

Brea: 18-22, female. Brea is struggling to fit into college life. She perpetuates her cycle of loneliness by avoiding everyone. She struggles to function independently and often finds herself spending time alone in her apartment.

The Stranger / Colby: 18-22, male. Colby is the stranger who offers Brea a chance to reconnect with the world. He has seen her around campus and recognizes her struggles. He tries to be kind to make Brea feel comfortable and safe in his presence. He is mysterious but inviting and non-threatening.

  1. THE CONFESSION by JACK CROSBY (2 ACTORS NEEDED)

Story:A Priest is plunged into self-doubt and moral ambiguity when a young man enters his church looking for answers about his past.

 

Character Breakdowns:

James: 18-23, male. James is timid, lacks confidence, has difficulty communicating with people. He has trouble sleeping because of a harrowing nightmare that has been haunting him for years. After spending the last decade in a boarding school, he returned to his hometown and to the church he used to work in, looking for answers for which he has spent many years searching.

The Priest: 35-45, male. The priest grew up in the faith and dreamed of working in the church.

After keeping secrets for the former priest of the church, the new priest has spent the last decade sitting on these secrets and managing the guilt that comes with them.

Story: A young woman, trapped in a single room by a faceless captor, tries to reclaim her power after discovering a piece of the outside world.

 

Character Breakdowns:

Woman: 20-25, female.  She is trapped, physically and mentally.  Having never seen the outside world, brainwashed and held captive by an unknown man, her spirit is like a caged animal, although ready to escape.

Man: 40-45, male.  Overbearing, powerful and threatening presence.  A mysterious tragedy happened to him in the past from which he has not recovered and that forces him to live in total darkness. He is a captor who has a strong symbolic presence, as if he were representative of a destructive masculine energy.

  1. HEAVEN SENT by ELIAS STURIM   (3 ACTORS NEEDED)

Story:After dying, Lucas finds himself in a familiar, comfortable place, only to have that which he loved the most come back to haunt him.

 

Character Breakdowns:

Lucas: 20—35, male. Innocent, joyful. Lucas is the protagonist of the film, who wakes up after dying in a place that seems like Heaven. He is a romantic, and he is deeply devoted to his wife—but even Lucas is not without a troubled past.

Older Lucas: 60—85, male. Looks like younger Lucas.

Lily: 20—35, Lucas’s wife. Preferably with red hair. Friendly, romantic, but able to portray a cold, loveless side.

  1. FLICKER by SANA AZEM(2 ACTORS NEEDED)

Story: When a bomb explodes next to their home, two sisters demonstrate their resilience in the face of danger.

 

Character Breakdowns:

Celine: 17-22, Female: (preferably someone who speaks Arabic, but not required if they show the ability to memorize lines in Arabic). Independent and resilient, teeming with life and energy. Loves dancing, singing and celebrating life, has a soothing voice. After losing both of her parents in an airstrike, she became the caretaker of her younger sister. She has lived under the bombs in Aleppo for a long time and has learned to celebrate life despite the war and destruction outside her door. Faced with immediate danger, she will use all her resources to protect her sister and give her a sense of normalcy.

Yara: around 10, Female (with permission, presence of parents): The chosen actress will be trained to say the lines in Arabic if she is not an Arabic speaker.

Yara: innocent, full of energy and joy. Yara’s innocence is shown not only through her actions but also in her eyes. Just like her sister, she enjoys life’s small pleasures. Yara tries to learn to become as independent as her sister.

  1. FRACTURE by MICAELA WILLOUGHBY  (2 ACTORS NEEDED)

Story: After finding her significant other with his wrists slit in the bathtub, Anna struggles to return to normalcy.

 

Character Breakdowns:

Anna:18–20, female. Anna is a very matter-of-fact young woman and natural caretaker. In this instance she has been the caretaker Lucas, who had been a constant in her life since her junior year of high school. Anna believed Lucas had gotten his depression under control. She is finding it hard to come to terms with how wrong she was.

Lucas:18–22, male. Lucas is a sardonic, but charming guy. He adores Anna and has thousands of sketches of her that he’s done over the years of their relationship. Still, his loving relationship doesn’t distract him from his own self-loathing. He often feels he is holding Anna back.

Story: When Matt wakes up one day, everything turns from bad to worse. Was it bad luck, is it his fault, or is there some other force pulling the strings?

 

Character Breakdowns:

Matt:20-30, male. Matt is a working college student, tired and worn out by his daily schedule. Throughout this short film he races to do a job at work despite a series of unpredictable obstacles.

Boss: 28-55, male. Matt’s boss at work; he is stern and ill-tempered, and easily annoyed by employees who do not meet his business’s standards. He is determined to teach Matt a lesson.
