On Wednesday, September 21st, the Visiting filmmakers Series kicks off the fall season with a free screening of The American Diplomat, followed by a conversation with director Leola Calzolai-Stewart and producers Kiley Kraskouskas and Rachell Shapiro. They’ll be talking about their documentary as well as FLOWSTATE Films, the women-owned production company they created in the DC area in 2015.

Our discussion will be moderated by Mason professor Dr. Suzanne E. Smith, an African American history specialist.

Created for the American Experience series, The American Diplomat explores the lives and legacies of three African American ambassadors — Edward Dudley, Terence Todman, and Carl Rowan — who pushed past historical and institutional racial barriers to reach high-ranking appointments in the Truman, Eisenhower, and Kennedy administrations.

This event is FREE and open to the public.  Mason ID holders can register to attend on Mason360.  Members of the public can register here.  https://signup.e2ma.net/signup/1973482/1912539/
