The 3rd DC Chinese Film Festival, scheduled to take place in September 2016, is now accepting submissions from filmmakers around the world.
Since its creation in 2011, DCCFF finds its roots in connecting cultures through cinema that highlights artistic creativity and independent thinking. They hope that DCCFF can provide a global platform for emerging talents and different voices. Most importantly, they want to help young filmmakers in their pursuit of passion in film and at the same time in obtaining full market ability for their work.
During their 2nd festival in 2014, they received entries from 29 countries and showcased 68 feature and short films in 9 venues in Washington D.C.. This year they continue their partnership with arthouse cinemas, museums and film institutes, aiming to present a diverse collection of films to an even larger group of audience.
The DCCFF programming committee is searching for:
- Chinese language films (including Chinese dialect or regional language)
- Films made by filmmakers of Chinese ethnicity worldwide
- Films by international filmmakers that tell a story about China, Chinese culture, or the Chinese Diaspora.
The Festival’s Main Competition consists of six categories: Narrative Feature, Narrative Short, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short, Animated Short, and Experimental Short. They also host an Online Competition category for non-film school students and amateur filmmakers to showcase their work. They especially encourage films that touches on the following topics – Women in Film, LGBT Topics, Environmental, Chinese Ethnic Minorities, and Cutting Edge Technology in Film.
The regular deadline for submissions is June 14, 2016 and there is NO ENTRY FEE. For late submissions (after June 14, 2016 and before June 30, 2016), there will be a $10 fee per entry.
