Chase City – Book Signing/Q&A with Cinematographer Roger Deakins 4/15 – $25-80

Calling all film lovers!

Join Academy Award-winning cinematographer Sir Roger Deakins for a book signing and Q&A reception on Saturday, April 15th at the Mecklenburg Country Club in Chase City, VA.

BOOK SIGNING: 12-4pm

Q&A RECEPTION: 5-7pm (with Roger and his wife and collaborator, James, moderated by Beverly Wood, friend and worked with them for over 30 years on various film projects)

His book, BYWAYS is a collection of previously unpublished personal black-and-white stills that reflect a life spent looking and telling stories through images, from 1971 to the present. After graduating from college, Roger spent a year photographing life in rural North Devon on a commission for the Beaford Arts Centre; these images attest to a keenly ironic English sensibility, and also serve as a record of a time and place of vanished post-war Britain.

If you already have a copy of his book, you can attend the book signing to have it autographed.

Also, at the event, attendees can purchase raffle tickets to win an opportunity to enjoy brunch with Roger and James Deakins and Beverly Wood at a local restaurant.

The proceeds from this event will benefit Save Our Heritage, a nonprofit organization focused on historic preservation and is working to restore the Mecca Theatre.

ABOUT SIR ROGER DEAKINS

Sir Roger Deakins, CBE, ASC, BSC, is one of today’s most acclaimed cinematographers. Nominated for an Academy Award 16 times, he has won twice for the films “Blade Runner 2049” and “1917”. He has been nominated 10 times for BAFTAs, winning five. Other Oscar nominations: Denis Villeneuve’s “Prisoners”; the Coen brothers’ “Fargo”; Martin Scorsese's “Kundun”; Stephen Daldry’s “The Reader”; Sam Mendes’ “Skyfall” and Angelina Jolie’s “Unbroken”, to name a few. His British colleagues have honored him with 11 nominations and 7 wins at British Society of Cinematographers (BSC) events. His countless career accolades also include two Independent Spirit Awards, numerous Critic’s Awards, and the Career Achievement Award from the National Board of Review. In 2020 he and his wife and collaborator James Ellis Deakins started a podcast called Team Deakins dedicated to the world of film.
