Arlingon, VA- WETA ISO Senior Director of Creative Services- PAID

The Senior Director of Creative Services will implement the overall direction of the on-air messaging for WETA TV26, WETA HD, WETA Kids and WETA UK. The position requires a combination of office work, studio & edit time and on-location. Using strategic planning of on air & off-air creative to drive viewership and ratings, s/he will manage, develop and motivate a creative team by providing clear creative, executable direction. Supervisory duties to include two full-time and one part-time role. Working closely with the Vice President, Television Station Manager, the Senior Director will foster a creative environment where all ideas are welcome.

Principal Responsibilities

Oversee all aspects of the on air & off-air creative process including:

Creation of on air & off-air package elements.

Maintain consistency of communication as it pertains to the WETA TV identity, look & feel.

Properly manage communication to viewers through consistent on-air messages that promote the brand, drive ratings, and build viewer loyalty.

Develop strategic concepts for cross channel campaigns to air across WETA TV26/HD and WETA UK.

Work with VP, TV Station Manager to develop on air strategies that make best use of air time and drive viewership.

Develop and manage the on-air budgets.

Work closely with Programming, Communications, and WETA.org to determine promotional priorities and roll-out strategies.

Supervise two full-time and one part-time position.

Lead, motivate, manage and develop the on-air promotions team.

Foster a creative environment where ideas can flourish.

Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in on-air promotion/production with a solid working knowledge of all aspects of production.

Solid understanding of the television business, including operations, scheduling, programming, and ratings.

Strong understanding and application of technical skills to effectively accomplish work – Proficient in non-linear editing platforms knowledge (AVID, Media Composer) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).

Budget management experience.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.

High energy and enthusiastic leadership skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as a team member in a collaborative environment.

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field.

Minimum of eight (8) years of television/video production and production management, experience, including minimum of three years of supervisory/management experience.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
