Richmond – Casting call for student short film – March 2024 – Unpaid

Richmond, VA – Casting Call for Short Narrative Film 3:00:00.

Hello! VCUarts Photo/Film students are creating a seven minute narrative film. Here’s a brief description!

BRIEF DESCRIPTION – “In ‘3:00:00,’ Adella Rankine, a vibrant newcomer, navigates the corporate landscape of ‘Welcome Home’ incorporation under the guidance of the charismatic yet disheveled supervisor, Andy Kipling. Against the backdrop of a ticking clock, ‘3:00:00’ explores the tension between individuality and conformity, and questions; In what way do we subconsciously and consciously abide by social norms?

We are looking for:
ADELLA RANKINE – Black Female – Twenties
Adella is a young, vibrant woman in her early twenties with a restless energy about her. She is characterized by her distinct fashion sense. Fidgety and seemingly out of place in the office environment. As she transitions into the corporate world, she evolves from a state of discomfort to mimicking her surroundings. Adella’s character is a blend of curiosity and adaptability.

ANDY KIPLING – White Male – Late Thirties
Andy is a disheveled yet charismatic supervisor. His appearance is marked by messy hair, an untucked shirt. He has a hurried but approachable demeanor. Despite his appearance, Andy exudes a sense of urgency and efficiency. He is tasked with introducing new employees to the company’s strict policies. He serves as the initial bridge between the corporate world and the newcomers.

ALEC MICHEAL – White Male – Twenties
Alec is a focused and determined individual. His character is marked by a sense of urgency and anxiety. Alec’s dedication is showcased as he initiates a company-wide typing session using the digital clock. He later appears in the waiting room as a carbon copy of other employees, sitting with perfect posture and contributing to the overall expressionless atmosphere of the workplace.

MAN 1 – White Male – Twenties
Man 1 is a carbon copy of Alec Micheal, reflecting the uniformity and lack of individuality within the office environment. His demeanor is mirrored, sitting with legs crossed and reading a magazine with a serious expression. Man 1 serves as a representative of the conformity expected from employees in the corporate setting.

Extras (Office Employees) – Any Ethnicity – Twenties to Thirties
The office is populated by a group of employees who, like Alec Micheal and Man 1, adhere to a uniform dress code and share a robotic dedication to their work. Their faces are expressionless, lit by the glow of computer screens as they tirelessly type away during the company-wide typing session. These extras contribute to the overall atmosphere of monotony and conformity within the office space.
