MAMA’S ROOTS

STORYLINE:

When her older sister challenges her ability to survive in an apocalyptic world, a naive young girl fights to prove herself, leading to deadly consequences. Virus.

SEEKING:

[BUG] – African American Female, 18+ (to play 17). Bug is eager to prove herself, craving independence and validation from her older sister, Mara. She is headstrong, curious, and frustrated by Mara’s overprotectiveness. Despite her confidence, she is still learning the harsh realities of their world: mistakes have dire consequences. She clings to memories of their mother and finds solace in the remnants of their past life, such as Mama’s journal. She loves her sister very much, despite her pride and desire for adulthood getting in the way of that.

MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH: Being outdoors for long periods of time, willing to wear natural hair (and have it styled on screen).

LEAD

RATE: $200/ day for 3 days.

[MARA] – African American Female, Mid-Late 20s. Self-reliant Mara carries the weight of survival on her shoulders, enforcing strict rules to protect her and Bug. She is nurturing, but direct – like a nurse in a warzone. She’s pragmatic, cautious, and unyielding, often appearing cold toward Bug, though her actions stem from deep love and concern. Haunted by their mother’s death and the ever-present danger of infection.

MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH: Fake blood, being outdoors for long periods of time

SUPPORTING

RATE: $200/ day for 2 days.

[MAMA] – African American Female, late 30s- early 40s. Non-speaking. Also appears in still family photos. Scientist vibes.

MUST BE COMFORTABLE WITH: Being outdoors for long periods of time

RATE: $125/day for 1 day.

Thank you in advance for your submission!

Submitting does not guarantee an audition: If selected, you will be contacted with an audition time and location. Every submission is thoughtfully considered. Specific requirements for each role are indicated above.
