Lynchburg – Casting call for short film – September 25th-30th – Paid

Film Synopsis:

Reason and Faith is the story of a closeted Christian minister and a professional drag queen.  After having had an affair at a summer camp as teenagers, these two men were outed and traumatized by their families and communities, and their lives diverged for over fifty years.  Meeting again finally in their sixties, they re-examine both their relationship and the choices that led to who they became as adults.

Lead 1 –  Timothy Bridger (68)

Caucasian, tall, thin, with intense, heterochromatic eyes (actor must be comfortable wearing a contact lens).  Something of a wizard-like appearance.  Timothy has had only one lover in his lifetime, and otherwise devoted himself to the church and distractions such as collecting antiques and artwork.  He is almost clinically addicted to formality, and avoids any discussion of raw emotion, preferring innocuous chit-chat.  He admires and enjoys the traditions of Christianity, and believes in his culture and community, though if pressed he would admit to stopping short of a superstitious devotion to the church.  At the start of the film he is close to retirement, and looks forward to disappearing into his home and from the world.

Lead 2 – Gregory Price (67)

African-American, fit, androgynous.  Greg is tough, outspoken, and often sarcastic, with a sharp wit and low tolerance for bullshit.  He has lived a wild life of constant moving and instability, performing in drag in cities across the country.  Currently he is on the road from Florida, fleeing a local culture that has become increasingly intolerant, hateful, and threatening.  Little is sacred to Greg other than his friends and the LGBT community that he has been a part of for over fifty years.  Christianity is for the most part something that he ridicules and despises, as he views the culture as hypocritical and toxic for those not deemed “normal.”  He is a friend to freaks everywhere, and seeks out the odd midnight places in every town or city that he visits.  Though he identifies as a queer man, he enjoys putting on the persona of a woman on a nightly basis.

Interested actors should send a headshot, resume, and reel to this address (zane@filmmenagerie.com).  From there, they will be asked to provide a self-tape of a scene from the film.
