The Motion Picture Opportunity Fund is a grant fund which follows the same guidelines as the Motion Picture Tax Credit Fund. The main difference between the two funds is that there is no required minimum spend for the grant fund, while the tax credit fund requires a minimum spend of $250,000.

The Virginia Department of Taxation has developed guidelines for the for the Virginia Motion Picture Tax Credit Fund and these same guidelines also govern the Virginia Motion Picture Opportunity Fund.
