Virginia has instituted an incentive program designed to support the state’s film prduction industry while making the filming experience in Virginia as economical and efficient as possible for for production groups that choose Virginia for their projects.

Virginia has two separate incentive funds. One is the Governor’s Motion Picture Opportunity Fund, which is a grant fund. The other is the Virginia Motion Picture Tax Credit fund, which is a refundable tax credit program.  In addition to the incentive funds, the state also has a Sales and Use Tax Exemption that applies to the purchase of production related supplies and equipment.  Hotel stays of 30 days or more are also exempt from state sales tax and some local lodging taxes.

Use the navigation buttons to the left to find information about Virginia’s incentive opportunities.  You can also download a complete copy of the Virginia Production Incentive brochure below. To speak to someone about Virginia’s production incentives, call the Virginia Film Office at 800.854.6233 or email Rita McClenny at rmcclenny@virginia.org
