Remembering World War I—The Battlefield and Beyond

You are invited to our second in a series of Military History Centennial of World War I Public Programs to commemorate the participation of African Americans during the Great War.

This series of programs is titled: Double Victory: The African American Military Experience—NMAAHC honors the Centennial of World War I.

This particular program, Remembering World War I—The Battlefield and Beyond, features a discussion with: Nikki Brown who wrote Private Politics and Public Voices: African American Women’s Activism from World War I to the New Deal, Lisa Budreau who authored Bodies of War: World War I and the Politics of Commemoration in America, 1919-1933, Adriane Lentz-Smith who wrote Freedom Struggles: African Americans and World War I, and Chad Williams, who authored Torchbearers of Democracy: African American Soldiers in the World War I Era. Rex Ellis, NMAAHC Associate Director for Curatorial Affairs will facilitate the discussion.

The program takes place May 25, 2017, from 6:30 PM to 7:45 PM, Oprah Winfrey Theater, National Museum of African American History and Culture, 1400 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. There will be a book signing after the program from 8:00 PM to 8:45 PM.
