Production Alliance

The Virginia Production Alliance (VPA) is a newly formed organization whose mission is uniting businesses and individuals committed to the growth of Virginia film, audio, and new media production. In addition to providing a variety of programs for professional development and networking, the VPA will focus on developing business inside Virginia, while simultaneously stimulating production from outside the Commonwealth.

By working with professionals from all aspects of the production industry the VPA will undertake specific initiatives to achieve the organization’s mission. These activities include:

  • Disseminate information via Website, hotline, listserve, etc.
  • Educational seminars, panel discussions and other events targeted to specific groups or topics of interest
  • Networking opportunities scheduled on a regular basis
  • Training/learning opportunities, internships and more will enable professionals to “keep current” on new techniques/trends
  • Support of the Virginia Film Office’s (VFO) promotional efforts
  • Serve a forum for the discussion of industry issues
Advocate for the industry, this applies to working with the General Assembly, as well as with businesses throughout the Commonwealth
  • Support Virginia writers, directors, producers. Develop financial support for in-state projects. Develop new or support existing groups/or product.

The VPA will continue with the very successful legislative efforts established by the former Virginia Production Services Association (VPSA). Over the course of 15 years VPSA members worked diligently with Virginia’s General Assembly and the VFO to make the Commonwealth a more “business-friendly” environment for production of film, video and audio projects. Their achievements include passing, and sustaining, legislation that guaranteed tax-exempt status for all production-related activities, and assisting with numerous other industry issues. VPSA’s work has greatly enhanced the VFO’s marketing capabilities for promoting Virginia as good place for production.
The newly formed VPA will continue the VPSA’s practice of working closely with the Virginia Film Office.

Outreach and business development are both basic to the new organization’s mission, and the menu of programs to be offered reflect these core components. VPA activities will meet the needs and interests of a wide range of production professionals. Benefits of membership include reduced fees to some programs, and exclusive attendance to other VPA activities.
