Washington DC – ISO: MULTI-MEDIA DESIGNER/SENIOR CREATIVE DIRECTOR – Paid

As an Interactive Designer, you would be part of a mid-sized creative team supporting the Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology Directorate (S&T). The candidate would be working with clients and other designers to conceptualize and execute a variety of compelling interactive designs to promote technology programs and visionary goals. The team supports customers who are first responders, cyber security experts, urban planners, bio-defense scientists, and others in the homeland security enterprise.

Primary Responsibilities Include:
•Collaborate with project managers, technical developers, and others to understand the vision and purpose of  interactive products
•Develop ideas and top quality interactive designs that are on brand and strategically aligned with project goals
•Adhere to timelines and schedules set in place
•Collaborate with internal teams and clients
•Translate creative direction into effective, engaging design
•Effectively present concepts to art director and clients
•Design wireframes and sitemaps

Necessary Skills Include:
•A passion for interactive design
•Understanding of user experience principles
•Ability to design and plan wireframes, then translate the wires to visual designs
•Comfortable working on diverse projects and shifting gears regularly
•An eye for typography, composition, and page layout
•Impeccable attention to detail
•Knowledge of responsive and application design is a plus
•Basic knowledge of HTML is a plus
•Self-motivated, efficient, and flexible; willingness to take on quick turnaround projects and meet deadlines
•A strong team player that’s positive, innovative and able to collaborate with a team of other designers and creative thinkers
•The ability to clearly articulate complex design concepts in “layman’s terms” to clients through written, verbal and visual communications
•An understanding of current design trends is a big plus, as is past experience in the freelance or private sectors

Experience Requirements Include:
•At least a Bachelor’s degree
•Plus at least 3 years of relevant experience
•If candidate does not have a Bachelor’s degree, he/she must have at least 6 years of relevant interactive design experience
•Strong portfolio demonstrating experience and understanding of interactive design principles

This position is part-time, and is a mix of working off-site from home and on-site at the client’s offices in downtown Washington, D.C.
