Washington DC – ISO: Junior 3D Animator/Video Editor – Paid

As the Junior 3D Animator / Video Editor, the candidate would be part of a mid-sized creative team supporting the Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology Directorate (S&T). The candidate would be assisting the team’s Senior Animator in creating multiple short animated videos to promote the client’s technology programs and visionary goals. The team supports customers who are first responders, cyber security experts, urban planners, bio-defense scientists, and others in the homeland security enterprise.

Primary Responsibilities Include:
•Preparing 3D models for use by the Senior Animator
•Developing and animating 3D characters, objects, and environments
•Finishing 3D scenes from the Senior Animator with lighting, textures, and atmospheric particles
•Creating small animated video clips
•Video editing of short videos that use both animation and raw camera footage
•Drawing and animating interesting 2D motion graphics
•Encoding and distributing video files in a variety of formats for very specific uses
•Using Adobe’s After Effects to apply special effects to regular video footage
•Designing storyboards (or otherwise presenting options) of styles to customers to help them understand what the finished product will look like before any animation work is ever done

The candidate should be experienced in handling a low number of tasks with minimal supervision and be proficient enough at time management to complete the assigned tasks by the agreed upon deadline. The individual should also be able to double-check the quality and accuracy of their own work, be forthright in alerting team of potential delays or other problems as soon as they arise, and have great communication skills to help explain complex technical requirements to non-technical customers.

Experience & Skill Requirements Include:
•At least a Bachelor’s degree
•Plus at least 3 years of 3D animation and motion graphics experience
•If candidate does not have a Bachelor’s degree, he/she must have at least 7 years of relevant animation and motion graphics experience
•A demonstrated familiarity with Maxon Cinema4D and Adobe After Effects on any platform
•Skill in any programs for video editing and 2D motion graphics is a plus
•Candidate must be able to provide a demo reel or other portfolio of animation, design, and editing work

This position is full-time with benefits, and is a mix of working off-site from home and on-site at the client’s offices in downtown Washington, D.C.
