High school filmmakers from 42 schools across the Commonwealth submitted 93 films to the 2nd Annual Virginia High School League Film Festival state championship, and 36 films have been designated Official Selections. These films will be honored this weekend with a screening at the festival, which will be held at Virginia Commonwealth University Academic Learning Commons, 1000 Floyd Avenue, on June 3-4.

The festival will also include filmmaker Q&As, audience choice voting, and presentations from guest speakers:

  • Jesse Vaughan, director and 27-time Emmy winner
  • Anh Do, animator and Virginia State University Art and Design faculty
  • Rex Teese, editor/director
  • Sharon Wayne, SFX makeup artist
  • Danny Caporaletti, screenwriter and VCU Cinema faculty

All Official Selection filmmakers will walk the red carpet on Saturday prior to the VHSL Vanguard screening of the top three films in five categories: narrative, documentary, experimental, animation and commercial/PSA. A grand jury award and audience choice award will be presented to the winners in each category.
