Richmond – The Afrikana Film Festival is Coming Up! – Sept. 15-18

AFRIKANA FILM FESTIVAL

Afrikana is a film festival dedicated to showcasing the cinematic works of people of color from around the world. We place a special focus on the global Black narrative. Our mission is to present high-quality, well-crafted stories that celebrate the diaspora and encourage people to connect.

Join us as we celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the indie film classic, She Gotta Have It. We will have 40 Acres an a Mule founding member, Monty Ross in attendance to talk about the creation of this seminal work that changed the course of Black indie cinema!

Some of downtown RVA’s most creative and beautiful spaces are opening their doors to host an afternoon of dynmaic indie film that celebrates the global Blackexperience.

Meet us at the Bijou for the screening of Hip-Hop Fellow about the first musician inducted into Harvard’s Nasir Jones Hip-Hip Fellowship, award-winning producer and DJ, 9th Wonder. 9th Wonder will be in attendance for a post-screening discussion!!

Afrikana is pleased to present an encore screening of the Miles Davis bio pic, Miles Ahead, directed by actor and filmmaker, Don Cheadle! The composor of the film’s score, famed jazz pianist, Robert Glasper, will be in attendance to share his thoughts about creating a soundtrack the story of one of the world’s most celebrated musicians!!

Meet us at The Hippodrome for OFFICIAL AFRIKANA AFTER PARTY W/ DJ 9TH WONDER spinning till 2am!!
