Richmond International Film & Music Festival Hiring – Sept. to April – Paid

The Richmond International Film Festival is one of the largest international competitive fests in the Mid-Atlantic now in its seventh year.  RIFF brings over 130 cutting edge films from more than 25 countries to Richmond each year. From emerging to Oscar awarding winning filmmakers, the festival includes six days of film premieres, live music, the FLOW collective conference, red carpets, symposiums, and more.

POSITION: Assistant Festival Producer

APPROXIMATE HIRE DATES:  September through April

COMPENSATION:  Pay range $17-$20 per hour depending upon the candidate’s experience, plus bonuses

WORK HOURS:  Monday through Thursday, approximately 25-30 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION:  The ideal candidate will be an experienced industry professional who combines a strong interest in film and music and has extensive experience in festival planning. He or she will be knowledgeable about all areas of festival coordination and day to day logistics including, but not limited to:  special event planning, business development, community outreach & partnerships, fundraising, press relations, marketing and branding, campaign design and execution, sponsorships, national and international relations, organizational partnerships, and more.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communications
  • Self-starter with strong community relationships
  • Excellent negotiating skills
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage a fast-paced environment
  • Extensive background in festival coordination, special event planning, film production, or other related film and music industry experience
  • Extensive background and contacts with production companies, distributers, sponsors, national and international organizations

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acquires and oversees event logistics, negotiations, community partnerships, and ongoing strategic business development for the festival
  • Acts as a liaison with the community, talent, and other national and international organizations
  • Handles and maintains existing and potential partnerships, vendors, sponsors, ales agents or US distributors, international cultural agencies, and embassies
  • Oversees all issues pertaining to programming, submissions, and filmmaker hospitality
  • Responsible for the overall scheduling of films and programming at theatres and music venues
  • Manages vendors, volunteers, and interns
  • Oversees DCP and exhibition copies with theatres
  • Oversees music programming and logistics with music venues
  • Contributes to creative programming ideas with special panels, symposiums, Q&A sessions
  • Oversees ticketing implementation and budgets effectively
  • Contributes and helps administer annual tribute awards, festival themes, and logistics of implementation including community involvement
  • Manages festival assistant and volunteers/interns as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Festival Producer

POSITION: Festival Assistant/Coordinator

APPROXIMATE HIRE DATES: September through May

COMPENSATION: Pay range:  $11-$13.00 depending upon the candidate’s experience

WORK HOURS: Monday through Thursday, approximately 20 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION:  The ideal candidate will be an experienced industry professional who combines a strong interest in film and music. He or she must be a self-starter who can handle a fast-paced environment and perform tasks within a wide range of areas, and be eager to learn and support festival leadership with the execution of all general weekly tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Creative thinking required, up to date on the latest industry trends a plus
  • Self-starter good at handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Possesses strong leadership potential and a desire to grow with the company
  • General knowledge of the film and music industries
  • Has extensive customer service or related experience with excellent written and verbal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs required, Adobe software & others a plus

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for organizing and following through on a broad range of logistical needs of the festival
  • Executes daily administrative tasks including but not limited to: filmmaker and musician correspondence, organizing volunteers and interns, handling customer service concerning patrons, venue coordination and support, executing social media campaigns, assisting with ticketing, programming, website updates, and various promotional campaigns
  • Performs various other duties as assigned by the Festival Producer and Assistant Director
  • The position acts as the main assistant to the Festival Producer and Assistant Festival Director
