The Whole World Upside Down

Roles:

ELIAS- Male, 6-12 yrs old.  Any Ethnicity.  Imaginative and adventurous.  Coming to terms with the death of his older brother, who was his idol.  Very comfortable on all playground equipment, loves to hang upside down on the monkey bars.  Happy go lucky.  Imagines conversations with his brother, not always sure what is real and what is part of his very active imagination.  Must be fit and comfortable hanging upside down on monkey bars as well as able to silently portray emotion.

MICHAEL- Male, 18-22yrs old. Any Ethnicity.  Older brother to ELIAS. Caring and compassionate. Loves playing at the park with his younger brother, even if only in ELIAS’ imagination.  Has recently died in a car crash.  Loves his little brother dearly and only wants for him to succeed and be happy.  Sad that he will no longer be around, but does not want to burden ELIAS with his sadness.

JOSEPH – Male, Early 20’s. Any Ethnicity. Anxious and confused. A recent college graduate in his first serious relationship. SARAH is mysterious and exciting, but very manipulative.  Against his better judgement, JOSEPH is convinced to go along with her wild plan. Doesn’t handle conflict well.

SARAH Female,­ Early 20’s. Any Ethnicity. Enjoying her relationship with JOSEPH, for now.   She has a bizarre, otherworldly secret and needs JOSEPH’s help. She is sweet, yet controlling and, in the end, is really only out for herself.
