Maryland – Videographer Needed for Egyptian-American Spoken Word Project – Nov. – Paid

Must be female, as this is a very sensitive subject for the women involved in the making of this video. A woman of Middle Eastern/Arab descent would be wonderful, but all ethnicities are welcome to reach out.

Description: In short, the poem (see below) recalls the filmmaker’s Egyptian grandmother’s experience with FGM (female genital mutilation). She is looking to make a documentary-style video that includes interview with her grandmother about her experience (she speaks Arabic, but the filmmaker’s mother will translate for her– subtitles in the final product will be necessary). She is looking that the video include the poem, either by direct footage or voice-over. She is hoping to artistically collaborate with the videographer to further develop the vision and aesthetic. This is the poem that will be in the film, either through direct footage or voice-over: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFnjYX_HD-0

This is a project that will require a great deal of sensitivity towards the subject matter, and empathy for those involved, and patience as her grandmother has never appeared on video before or shared her story publically.
