The School of Media Arts & Design (SMAD) at James Madison University (JMU) invites applications for a tenure-track or renewable-term assistant professor position beginning in August 2018.

SMAD provides one of the finest media production facilities in the country. Its studio and media labs offer instructional workspace for creating video, audio, graphics, animation, websites, and apps.

SMAD has four concentrations: Creative Advertising, Digital Video and Cinema, Interactive Design, and Journalism. Our faculty represents a blend of professional and academic interests. Screening of applications will begin October 13, 2017 and continue until the job is filled.

Duties and Responsibilities:

SMAD seeks a student-oriented colleague to teach introductory through advanced production courses in the Digital Video and Cinema (DVC) concentration. The ideal candidate will have professional experience in fiction, non-fiction and/or commercial production as well as prior teaching experience. The ability to teach film studies courses is a plus. All SMAD faculty are actively engaged in teaching, service, and research or creative activities.

Qualifications:

An MFA or Ph.D. is required for a tenure-track appointment; ABD applicants with the degree near completion will be considered. A master’s degree is required for a renewable-term appointment.

Pay Rate: Commensurate with Experience
