DC – PBS NewsHour Seeking Tape Producer – ASAP

Title: Tape Producer

Department: NewsHour Productions, LLC

Supervisor:  Senior Broadcast Producer

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

 

The Tape Producer will execute Quality Control over all video airing on the PBS NewsHour, ensuring all elements are managed properly on the playout server, and will additionally produce and edit videos on a variety of topics for NewsHour and its digital platforms.

 

Responsibilities 

Must ensure all video airing on the NewsHour is available, accurate, properly ordered and meets technical and editorial standards.

Edit pre-taped discussions to ensure they have right heads, tails and pad, follow naming conventions to be appropriately checked in for air.

Must be able to effectively articulate status of material during the show with control room staff.

Generate story ideas.

Research and arrange interviews.

Coordinate and field produce shoots.

Conduct occasional on-camera interviews.

Acquire, screen, and log footage.

Edit video as needed during breaking news situations.

Produce and edit video on variety of subjects for numerous digital platforms.

Assist with night production to ensure NewsHour content is ready for numerous digital platforms including OTT devices.

Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge in national and international news production management for daily, 24/7 or weekly television and digital outlets, including breaking news and feature story telling.

Demonstrated knowledge in the field and in studio production of news, preferably for a daily, 24/7 or weekly outlet.

Exceptional creative, verbal and writing skills.

Extensive knowledge of broadcast video production.

Shooting experience is a plus.

Ability to work in a fast-paced setting and adjust smoothly to changing assignments.

Knowledge of and ability to use content management systems and web publishing.

Ability to work closely with colleagues in a collaborative manner under deadline.

Excellent organizational, project planning, presentation and time management skills with careful attention to detail.

Ability to interact with a wide variety of people using diplomacy, tact and discretion.

Must exhibit editorial and control room ability

Ability to edit at high level in Avid and Adobe Premiere.

Experience with Avid iNews.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field.

Minimum of four (4) years experience working in broadcast journalism, preferably for a national outlet.

Or equivalent combination of training and experience.
