Charlottesville – Maupintown Film Festival – July 14-16 – Free

The 3rd annual Maupintown Film Festival takes place July 14-16, 2017.

This year’s festival theme is “Black Goes with Everything: The Diverse Experiences of Descendants of Africa.” See 15 incredible films that explain what it means to be of African descent in America and abroad. The festival shares films of both historical and contemporary importance, and includes discussions from experts on topics such as Sally Hemings, her relationship with President Thomas Jefferson and the restoration of her bedroom at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. Discussions will also focus on African-American women and wearing natural hair, the #BlackLivesMatter movement, as well as the black church. This year’s festival will also include films for the kids, as we start of the morning of Saturday, July 15th with “Saturday Morning Cartoons”.
