Arlington – CinemaVista Screenings – June 22 – Free

CinemaVista, presented by Arlington Cultural Affairs, will show Arlington Commission for the Arts’ 2017 Spotlight Artist grant recipients Tomas Guevera and Via Bia’s newest films, Why Arlington? (Guevera), and These Colors Don’t Run (Bia).

Bia created a film from her short screenplay, These Colors Don’t Run, about a tattoo’ d Latina who recalls the story of her first “ink,” with surprising involvement from a pack of Sharpie markers, a pristine communion dress, and one angry Mama. The story is reflective of Bia’s own childhood as a Latina from a religiously conservative household who always loved art, books, and movies.

Guevera’s Why Arlington? explores the personal experiences and challenges for integration that the various immigrant communities in Arlington, particularly those immigrants who live along the Columbia Pike corridor face, and the county’s response to this phenomenon.

A question and answer session and light reception will follow.
